JERSEY DEVIL

1

Deep in the Jersey Barrens
Outside the town of Leeds
There lived a lonely widd-errr-
No man to tend her needs !

So, one All Hallows Evenin’
When the moon was pale and white
She cried, “I’d let ol’ Satan himself
Come share my bed tonight !”

Chorus

Keep to the middle of the trail, friend
When the moon is pale an’ white
An’ build up the fire in the ol’ campsite-
The Devil walks tonight !

2

Old Satan come a courtin’
Kept her dancin’ till the dawn:
One year later to the day
The Devil’s Child was born !

Oh, when she saw that baby
The widder gave a wail:
He looked just like his Daddy…
Complete with horns and tail !

Chorus

Keep to the middle of the trail, friend
When the moon is pale an’ white
An’ build up the fire in the ol’ campsite-
The Devil walks tonight !

3

The moral to this story
Is mighty plain to see:
The Devil’s always willin’…
To furnish company !

So gentlemen ,be on your toes:
Better treat them ladies right-
Or that ol’ Jersey Devil…
Might take your place some night !

Chorus

Keep to the middle of the trail, friend
When the moon is pale an’ white
An’ build up the fire in the ol’ campsite-
The Devil walks tonight !
